In the Creel Harrison Gallery at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art from August 1 – October 23, 2024, view “Fix Yourself A Plate.” This collection of recent works by artist Heather René Dunaway explores mother-daughter relationships, body image, southern food culture, and the healing of generational trauma through mixed media works that utilize found and nostalgic materials, such as fabric from her Grandmother’s crafts collection, hand-written notes, and old family photos alongside paintings and photography.
Two receptions will be held for this exhibition. The first being an opening reception on the artist’s birthday, Friday, August 16th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. The second being in tandem with the A Sense of Place opening on September 6th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments and drink to be served.
