The Etherredge Center is partnering with Umoja Village to present the documentary Descended from the Promised Land: The Legacy of Black Wall Street. This film is about the Tulsa Race Massacre in which North Tulsa’s Greenwood District, the most prosperous Black community in America, was destroyed in 1921. After the film, there will be a panel discussion with prominent African American leaders and historians from Aiken to answer questions from the crowd. Each ticket includes access to a pre-show reception in the Etherredge Center lobby.
Umoja Village is a South Carolina-based charitable organization that connects the underserved and underrepresented population with resources they need to effect positive sustainable change to create communities rich in diversity, inclusion, and equity. This event will be a part of Umoja Village’s “Unity Weekend” which includes “Shoutfest” on Saturday and the Unity Golf Tournament on Monday.
