‘Alice in Wonderland – a Play with Music’ is an all-Augusta creation and all-Augusta production, presented by the Davidson Fine Arts Theatre Program, co-directed by Betty and Steve Walpert, music composed by Carl Purdy, vocal director Cindy Wilkinson, the script adapted from Lewis Carroll’s novel by Walter Evans. The play includes all the favorite characters: After following the White Rabbit down the rabbit hole, Alice will grow, shrink, and encounter strange creatures, the Cheshire Cat will appear and disappear, the Mad Hatter and March Hare will defy logic and reality, the Red Queen will rave and rant, and a fine Wonderlandish time will be had by all. The audience will delight at a dozen songs in a variety of genres: rock, rap, ballad, country, and others, Adults and children alike will delight in the fantasy, costumes, special effects, and humor, and reflect on the challenges implicit in growing older, negotiating troublesome conventions, managing proper behavior, struggling to shape an authentic identity. There will be two performances exclusively for RCSS students at 10:30 and 12:00 on Wednesday March 22, with public performances at 7:00 on Thursday March 23, and at 4:00 and 7:00 on Friday March 24.
