As employees shifted to working from home due to COVID-19 and moving to cities they wanted to live in rather than had to live in, job matchmakers Expertise.com started studying crime rates across the country. Its new safe-state ranking revealed that Georgia is the country’s third-safest state, behind only Massachusetts (No. 1) and Connecticut (No. 2).
The company analyzed the FBI crime database to find the safest cities and towns with populations of 10,000 or more. This database includes information from more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies around the nation, providing detailed insights into the crimes committed in their areas.
To rank states from safest to most dangerous, city data for each state was consolidated, and the same weighting system and percentile rank equation was used for states as was for cities.
Georgia also had seven municipalities listed among the safest cities in America: Braselton, Sandy Springs, Suwanee, McDonough, Lilburn, Pooler and Dunwoody.
