Publisher Notes: June/July 2019

When we began planning the editorial for the June/July issue, we knew that we would be celebrating the city’s Top 10 in 10 Young Professionals to Watch as we do every year. We also thought we would be marking 45 years of Augusta Magazine – or at least that was the plan.

For months, we have been pulling photos, looking back at stories from our 40th anniversary in 2014 and our 35th in 2009. I asked Don Rhodes to write the anniversary story. Don has written for Augusta Magazine for many years and always does a fantastic job. So I made the assignment, he graciously accepted and I waited.

In early May, we began designing this issue and I had received all the stories, except for the anniversary feature. I reached out to Don to find out when I should expect to receive his masterpiece chronicling our history. He confirmed that he was indeed working on a story, but thought the deadline would be somewhere around late Fall.

WHAT?

I explained that we were planning to run the story in this issue. His reply, “Ashlee, Augusta Magazine was founded in 1975.”

How could that be? I looked at the 40th issue in 2014 and the 35th in 2009. To further my resolve, our mast says ‘Founded in 1974’! So Don and I began investigating and the plot thickened – we found dates ranging from 1973 to 1975. What in the world were we going to do? We were going to press in less than 10 days and had everything mapped out.

We were able to rule out 1973. So our solution – celebrate for an entire 12 months from June 2019 to June 2020! Join us celebrating 45 years in each issue for the next 12 months.

Happy Anniversary!

-Ashlee
