Five Ways to Get Quality Sleep This Summer

By Jennifer McKee

Do you fight the eternal battle of blocking out light when you sleep? Is the summer heat most uncomfortable when trying to fall asleep at night? Whatever your sleep time woes, there’s a product to help with that. These items promote a more restful night, whether or not you’re at or home.

A Great Eye Mask
Love weighted blankets, but can’t bear the thought of using them in summer? Try a weighted eye mask instead. Nodpod Sleep Therapy Masks have four divided pods with a pull-through tab that gives you the option of tightening it or draping it over your eyes, and applies gentle pressure to blot out the strongest of light. Nodpod comes in half a dozen cool colors and has cooling jersey cotton on one side, warm microfiber on the other. Stick it in the freezer to have Nodpod ready for those hot summer nights!

Cooling Pajamas
Does your body also need a cool down? Ladies should try a piece from Soma’s Cool Nights collection on for size—they’re made from Soma’s special fabric designed to keep you cool and dry throughout the night. A number of fun designs are available—everything from flamingos, fruits and fronds. Pieces range from nightshirts, sleep shorts, camis, crop pants and robes.

Guys will love Dagsmejan—the cooling pajamas are eight times more breathable than cotton, and are super light. Excess body heat is released through the fabric, which cools you down and prevents overheating. Dagsmejan also carries balance sleepwear that regulates temperate control.

Calming Spray
Those who love aromatherapy will want to reach for This Works Deep Pillow Spray. A blend of lavender, chamomile and vetivert oils, it helps to put the mind and body in a restful place that’s more conducive to sleep. Spritz on your pillow before bedtime, and for an added boost, on your PJs too.

A Syncing Clock
Getting your body clock in sync is one of the keys to restful sleep. Hatch’s Restore smart light promotes a healthy rhythm, by prepping the brain and body for sleep and helping it to awaken gently the next morning, via a sunrise alarm. Easily programmable, features also include a soft-glow reading light, custom meditations and a sound machine.
